Pursuing a MSW in Social Work

December 18, 2010

It is official!  I am now an MSW (Masters of Social Work).  I am dedicating my life to helping others by becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  My goal is to work with those who need help coping with mental illness and/or substance abuse.  I want to help people live in the solution, not the problem.  I have worked with so many people these last two years who need help.  I know what that is like.  You see, I too suffer from an addiction, an addiction to food.  Food is my drug of choice, and too often I have used it to deal (or not deal) with life’s challenges.  I know what it is like to suffer, to want to stop, but can’t.  Whether your drug of choice is food, alcohol, cigarettes, exercise, adrenaline, shopping, gambling, or drugs, they are all addictive behaviors we  use to deal with life’s stresses.

It is my mission to make a difference in this world by helping others who suffer as I have.  Everyone is doing the best they can given their situation and what they know.  Sometimes we need to be brought to our knees to see things differently.  That is when we surrender and ask for help.  I hope to help others as I have been helped.  If it weren’t for my willingness to be vulnerable and ask for help, I wouldn’t be where I am today.  Ready to embark on a new career.

I consider myself very fortunate to have this vision, and the courage to pursue it.

Thank you for being a part of my life and sharing in my dreams.
